My loyal companion Moose has had hip problems since he was a puppy. Severe hip displaysia. He had an operation years ago to remove the ball of one of his hip joints to relieve the pain, but lately his movement has been declining and he apparently injured his knee as a result of his unstable hips. Saturday, Kurt took him down to the vet - hoping that maybe some anti-inflammatories and pain meds would do the trick. No such luck. After looking at his x-rays, the doctor recommended a double hip replacement. Oh and this can only be done at NC STATE in Raleigh at the Vet College. Yes that is as expensive as it sounds. But what are we supposed to do, not get the surgery? Moose and I have been through a lot and I certainly can't give up on him now. The vet says except for his hips, he's a super-healthy dog and should live for many years. This will give him a new lease on life. So...Moosey is going to be a bionic dog and we are going to have a significant dip in our savings. Surely Sarah Beth will get a scholarship and will not need a college fund, right? All you non-dog owners will probably think we're crazy, but if you have a dog, you know that not doing the surgery is not even an option. Look at this face:
Moose the Wonder Dog
We want both our pups to be around to play with Sarah Beth as she gets older. They already like her...see how Savannah watches her closely?
Savannah the Babysitter
I will say though, that they are not a fan of the noises that come out of her butt. As soon as she lets one rip or expels anything into her diaper, both dogs jump up and run from the room. I don't know if it's the sound or if they're offended by the odor, but seriously, both dogs have been guilty of clearing a room so they shouldn't act so uppity about it.
Tomorrow I call the doggie hospital to see what the deal is. He'll have to do one at a time so it'll be a long road to 100% recovery. It should be interesting having poor Moose hobbling around recuperating from surgery in addition to caring for baby. Stay tuned for that saga!

Aw, I was just trying to post on FB and ask how Moose was doing but my FB is being a POS today... Let me know if you need us to watch Savannah Dog when you go to NCSU (go Wolfpack!)!
you must do it. not doing it is insanity. i did hold off on taking copper to the emergency vet after he ate the entire inside of a dirty diaper, but he kind of brough that on himself. moose can't help he has crappy hips. ignore any nay sayers, we'll have a stinkin' benefit dinner if we need to.
