quick update from slacker mommy blogger

Oh my gosh it's been more than a week since I've posted.  I have so much to write about that I keep postponing my blogging until I have some spare time but alas, I never seem to have such luxuries. Suffice it to say when I do finally get to my full-blown blog entry it will be epic!

Sunday was Sarah Beth's baptism and we had a wonderful time.  She did a splendid job in front of the congregation, doing everything short of a pageant wave for the crowd.  God loves Sarah Beth so much He gave her a beautiful sunshiney 60 degree afternoon for her special day.  Grandma loves her so much that she found baptism shoes (that's right, SHOES) for her to wear for the occasion.  Pictures will be forthcoming of the Jesus shoes, but  in the meantime...here are a few photos from Sarah Beth's baptism weekend.  You will note that there are no pictures of her in the actual baptism dress.  That would be because she fell asleep as soon as we got home and stayed that way until the very last party guest was walking out the door.  Don't you worry though, Mommy will be doing a reenactment photo shoot this weekend because she looked like an absolute angel in her pretty white gown.

Here she is with Grandma, post-party

Uncle Marc flew all the way from New Orleans to meet his little niece

They hit it off well I think

Silly girl!

Sarah Beth would like to thank her friends and family for sharing her special day with her.  She is sorry for missing the afterparty but she is only a baby after all and babies need their beauty rest.

Snow Day

Why, do you ask, am I sitting here blogging instead of whooping it up at Avery's First Birthday extravaganza?  Well, that would be because Charlotte got 4 inches of snow last night.  What the heck?  I guess I wasn't paying attention to the weather reports because we didn't even rush to the store for bread and milk (and wine and chocolate) along with the rest of the city.  Darnit.  We woke up early to assess driving conditions and the DOT was reporting 78 accidents in the area between 5-7AM.  That's enough reason for us to nix the trip up to Winston-Salem, unfortunately.  And SB and the perfect party dress picked out!  Darnit again!  I sure hope we get to see Avery soon - this is getting ridiciulous.  I am ready for Spring already, enough of this wintry mix nonsense.

On a brighter note, we bundled up Sarah Beth and took some baby snow pictures.  As you can see by the photos, she was less than enthused with the snowsuit and didn't really care for the cold, especially when the snow blew from the trees into her little face.

The outfit is a cross between Ralphie's pink bunnysuit and his little brother's snowsuit from A Christmas Story  - "I can't put my arms down!!"

Moose liked it, however.

Pretty little Snowbunny!

Pears are Delicious

Clowning around with baby to practice my photography skills.  What do you think?  Aren't these fabulous?

Another weekend come and gone and from what I understand there's some football game on tonight.  I've been watching the Puppy Bowl on Animal Planet this afternoon and baby agrees, it's much more fun than the real thing.  We had a nice relaxing weekend at home hanging with baby.  Our friends Natalie and Mike stopped in yesterday for a visit.  We ended up watching "Falling Down" - you know, the movie where Michael Douglas sports a short sleeve white button-down and tie and goes postal, doing what a lot of us would probably like to do some days.  Things aren't that bad at work yet.  In fact, I think this may actually be a pretty good week.  Not to mention we have Avery's Big First Birthday Party in Winston-Salem coming up next weekend.  I am SO excited to meet this little man finally and introduce him to his future girlfriend Sarah Beth. It also happens to be SB's first birthday party AND it coincides with Valentine's Day weekend so he have already picked out the perfect red dress for the occasion.  We hope Avery likes it!  Pray for sunshine so we don't miss another party at Avery's.  I'm still not over missing the Halloween party thanks to bad weather.  Hopefully SB can squeeze into the monkey costume again this year.  She was so darn cute!  Not looking good though. She's growing like a weed!  Seven Months old this Thursday.  Where did the time go?

The Best Part

We've settled into a nice bedtime routine, Sarah Beth and I.  After dinner and bathtime, we put on our jammies, have a nice warm bottle, read a book, and slow dance to the Baby Mix on her iPod.  Then I sit in her dark room, rocking her to sleep and saying my prayers.  (Goes something like - thank you God for this sweet angel baby please keep her safe and healthy and happy and give us the wisdom, patience and strength not to screw up this perfect little person You entrusted to us.)  Hands down the best part of my day is when she rests her sweet-smelling head on my shoulder, sucks her thumb and drifts off to sleep.  Having that warm little bundle peacefully resting in my arms makes all seem right and good with the world.  I forget about my frustrating day at work.  The things that drove me bananas all day as I stomped around the office turn into distant memories as baby does her little sighing noise as she sleeps.  Today was a particularly hellacious day, and I found myself holding on extra tight and rocking her long after she had fallen asleep because it was even more soothing for me, I think, than for her.  I just didn't want to let go.  I have a feeling that will be a recurring theme over the next 5, 10, 20, 30 years.  So for now I will indulge myself while I can and snuggle that sweet baby until my heart is full.  Sweet dreams, baby girl!
