I am super excited. I'm slightly obsessed with I Heart Faces, a website devoted to portrait photography tips and inspiration. They have a weekly photo challenge with different themes and have a guest photographer judge pick their top ten favorites, and then the founders, Amy and Angie, pick their favorites for the week.
Anyway, I've entered off and on over the past few months but this week's entry got picked as an Amy and Angie favorite out of over 600 photos. Yay me! I am so happy. The theme this week was "Slice of Life" which means shooting life as it happens rather than a posed, perfect shot. It's been my favorite theme by far. The photos people submitted are so real, so intimate. You get to see real smiles, real moments. I strive to capture more of that in my photography and less "sitting pretty for the camera" type of stuff. I know everyone likes to have a nice photo of their family dressed up, pleasantly sitting together, but when I look back on all the photos I've taken, it's the messy, unplanned images that really make my heart sing. Isn't that how life is?
Anyway, here's the photo...
She had just woken up from her nap when her mean momma crept in with her camera and opened the blinds. She was staring out the window at the rain that hung around all last weekend. It doesn't hurt that the subject is absolutely beautiful, in my completely unbiased opinion.

Yeah Jen!! I wish you lived in NJ so you could come take pictures of my girls! That's a beautiful shot, and I love the pink flower on her dress to contrast her gorgeous blue eyes. Did you photoshop that in? ;)
ummm, i told you this picture was incredible the very moment i saw it, but it seems you need the expert opinion of some girls thousands of people follow on the web. i understand.
i certainly love it to pieces. i looked at the other winners and i am quite sure several of them were posed, but that is just my opinion. i think you should have been a winner!
